Template: FAQ / Knowledge Base

Template ID: faq-knowledge Target Length: 1,500-2,000 words Content Type: Comprehensive FAQ organized by category with extractable answers Primary Search Intent: Informational ("what is," "how does," "why does," "can I," "should I")

When to Use This Template

Use this template when:

  • A topic generates many recurring questions across forums, support channels, or search
  • Each question can be answered in 80-120 words with a clear, direct response
  • The content needs to be optimized for Google Featured Snippets and AI citations
  • Search queries are phrased as questions ("how do I," "what is the difference between," "why does")
  • You want to create a linkable reference page that other content can point to

Do NOT use this template for:

  • Step-by-step instructions (use tutorial)
  • Timely event analysis (use news-analysis)
  • Original data studies (use data-research)
  • Topics with fewer than 10 meaningful questions (too thin for this format)

SEO Note: This template is optimized for visible, self-contained Q&A passages. Visible Q&A can support extraction for snippets and AI citations, but FAQPage schema does not cause Featured Snippets and should be secondary to Article, Person, Organization, and BreadcrumbList schema.

Structured Data Notes

FAQPage schema is optional entity markup for visible Q&A. Article or BlogPosting, Person, Organization, and BreadcrumbList remain the baseline. When FAQPage is used, generate valid JSON-LD from the visible questions:

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "FAQPage",
  "mainEntity": [
    {
      "@type": "Question",
      "name": "[Question text]",
      "acceptedAnswer": {
        "@type": "Answer",
        "text": "[Answer text - use the ANSWER-FIRST sentence + supporting detail]"
      }
    }
  ]
}

Rules:

  • If FAQPage is generated, include every visible H2 question in the schema
  • Use the [ANSWER-FIRST] text as the answer in the schema
  • Schema may include all visible FAQ questions when JSON size remains reasonable
  • Test FAQPage with Schema.org Validator and validate entity consistency. Use Google's Rich Results Test only for page types eligible for Google rich results.

336## Structured Data Notes
337
338FAQPage schema is optional entity markup for visible Q&A. Article or BlogPosting,
339Person, Organization, and BreadcrumbList remain the baseline. When FAQPage is
340used, generate valid JSON-LD from the visible questions:
341
342```json
343{
344 "@context": "https://schema.org",
345 "@type": "FAQPage",
346 "mainEntity": [
347 {
348 "@type": "Question",
349 "name": "[Question text]",
350 "acceptedAnswer": {
351 "@type": "Answer",
352 "text": "[Answer text - use the ANSWER-FIRST sentence + supporting detail]"
353 }
354 }
355 ]
356}
357```
358
359**Rules:**
360- If FAQPage is generated, include every visible H2 question in the schema
361- Use the [ANSWER-FIRST] text as the answer in the schema
362- Schema may include all visible FAQ questions when JSON size remains reasonable
363- Test FAQPage with Schema.org Validator and validate entity consistency. Use
364 Google's Rich Results Test only for page types eligible for Google rich results.
