What real workflow have you automated from start to finish with an AI agent?

Asked on Reddit · rewritten without usernames ·

Beyond basic chatbots, which agents are handling an entire workflow for people today, such as researching leads, managing email, debugging code or clearing repetitive admin? What tools did they use, and what was the hardest part to make reliable, including the attempts that failed first?

The workflows that run end to end without drama tend to share three traits: the input arrives in a predictable way, the steps are the same every time, and a wrong result is easy to spot. Feed monitoring, document sorting, lead enrichment and report building fit that shape; open-ended customer conversations usually do not.

Most reliable setups are mostly plain automation with an agent in one or two places. A workflow tool handles triggers, retries and moving data between systems, and the model is called only for the step that needs judgment, such as classifying, extracting or drafting. That keeps the expensive, unpredictable part small.

The hardest part is almost always the exceptions, not the happy path. Missing fields, duplicates and inputs in a format nobody expected are where agents fail silently. Route those to a person with the agent's draft attached instead of letting it guess.

Before calling it automated, run it next to the manual process for a week and compare results. If you cannot say how often it is wrong, it is not finished yet.
